Before 2022, snowboarding was a niche hobby for China's major cities. Su Yiming's gold medal in Beijing changed that overnight. Resort bookings surged 340% in the 2022–23 season. By 2025, China had surpassed Japan as Asia's largest snowboard market. Brands like Burton and Lib Tech opened flagship stores in Shanghai. A generation of Chinese kids are growing up watching Su Yiming, Cai Xuetong, and Liu Jiayu the same way past generations watched basketball heroes.
